Fidlar Technologies is eager to highlight the charitable efforts of Lori Wickman, Recording Deputy for Mason County, IL. Earlier this year, many restaurants were forced to close their doors to customers, preventing indoor dining because of the COVID-19 pandemic. While this may have slowed, or stopped, many restaurateurs and their patrons, Babe’s Restaurant in Havana, IL, refused to let it stop them. Babe’s put out the call via social media: they needed volunteers to help prepare and deliver meals to local seniors who couldn’t receive visitors due to the pandemic. Lori, and her eager family, answered the call, along with so many other volunteers that there wasn’t enough meals to be delivered.
Lori, who mentioned how happy her family was to help and how much fun her kids had helping out, was proud of the work her local community put forth to help those in need. Over a 6-week period of time, where volunteers delivered meals 3 times a week – on Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday – Babe’s Restaurant and families like Lori’s helped to deliver a whopping 3,294 meals to local seniors. Not only did it brighten the recipients’ days, but it was a feel-good experience for Lori and her family, as well. Despite the challenges presented by the coronavirus, families like Lori’s show that the human spirit is too strong to keep down.
“My family and I started helping Babe’s Restaurant deliver meals when COVID-19 forced restaurants to close down indoor dining. They reached out through social media for volunteers to help deliver these meals to local seniors who couldn’t have visitors or couldn’t get out. After 6 weeks – 3 times a week – volunteers helped deliver 3,294 meals! My family and I had a great time helping our local community and I’m proud of what our community was able to accomplish.”
