The Illinois Fidlar eByte: May 2016

Fidlar is pleased to announce that the DuPage County Recorder’s Office has successfully launched Honor Rewards. Honor Rewards is a community service program that allows veterans to sign-up to receive an Honor Rewards Card and use it to receive discounts and benefits at local participating retailers, restaurants, and businesses. The program is also meant to prompt veterans to have their DD-214 and other military documents recorded. These documents are not available to the public and are protected by the Recorder’s Office.

The DuPage County Recorder’s staff canvassed local businesses and their efforts were very well received. Steve Fixler, Superintendent of the Veteran’s Assistance Commission of DuPage County, has also been promoting the program to local veterans groups. Additionally, the Recorder’s Office sent letters countywide to veterans, promoting the Honor Rewards program but tailored more specifically to those that hadn’t had their military papers processed by the Recorder’s Office. By doing so, these individuals and their families will always be able to retrieve these important documents if they are ever lost or misplaced.

“We are very proud to offer the program and our services to the veterans of DuPage County. Here in the office we have a workstation that is designated for veterans to sign-up for Honor Rewards. An elder veteran has even taken the time to come to the office to thank us for offering the program. We are here to serve them and this is a way to show our gratitude. Veterans have also stated that they appreciate how the DuPage County Honor Reward’s website lists all the participating businesses in one easy location.” – Fred Bucholz, DuPage County Recorder
