It comes as no surprise to us that many of our county partners do more than just record Deeds — they perform goodDEEDS. We thought it would
be a great idea to share as many of these stories as possible. By doing so we hope to raise awareness of the various charities and organizations they contribute to. We want to build their momentum and effectiveness in achieving their very important goals.
We would like to recognize the staff of the Coos County Registry of Deeds Office in New Hampshire for their charitable efforts this last Holiday season. They organized a stuffed animal drive for patients being treated at the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD) in Lebanon, New Hampshire. They chose to donate to CHaD since some patients are unable to be in the comfort of their own home during the holidays.
In recent years, the Registry of Deeds staff have made monetary donations to the local Toys for Tots charity. This last year they decided they would do something different. A staff member spotted the “Pillow Pet”, a folding plush toy that can be used as a pillow, and thought it would be the perfect gift for a child staying in a hospital during the holidays. The staff gathered thirty-five “Pillow Pets” from local retail stores. Each stuffed animal was brought back to the office where they were prepared and put into gift bags. A staff member then delivered the items to CHaD, where they were distributed to the children by hospital staff. One of the gifted items even reached a child who was from Coos County, which is about two hours from Lebanon.
Stuffed animals are of particularly good use to hospital staff as they can be used to help normalize a patient’s stay. The staff at CHaD will also use toys and stuffed animals as diversions for those in pain or discomfort. Items are also able to be used as rewards for those who must undergo procedures that aren’t pleasant. Donated items such as stuffed animals gain new meaning and provide comfort for those that possess them in an environment such as a hospital.
Thanks again to the Coos County Registry of Deeds staff for donating their time and effort this last Holiday season.
