mo_audrain_janis-deimeke-copyIt comes as no surprise to us that many of our county partners do more than just record Deeds — they perform goodDEEDS. We thought it would be a great idea to share as many of these stories as possible. By doing so we hope to raise awareness of the various charities and organizations they contribute to. We want to build their momentum and effectiveness in achieving their very important goals.

We would like to recognize Register of Deeds Janis Deimeke of Audrain County in Missouri for volunteering her time to the youth mentoring organization, Bright Futures Mexico. The organization is based in Mexico, MO which consists of nearly 200 volunteers. These individuals commit personal time and efforts to developing relationships with the goal of improving children’s experiences in the community and in school. One way for relationships to get established is through a meal sharing program called The Lunch Buddies.

moaudrainThe Lunch Buddies program currently consists of more than 175 mentors. As one of the mentors, Janis dedicates time to having lunch with a student from the community twice a month. She currently has lunch with two students at schools in Mexico. On each occasion, she travels to the student’s school and shares lunch with them. During the meal, they converse over subjects like school work, pets, and whatever else the student might want to discuss. Janis encourages them in both their successes and their failures; rewarding them when they are able to improve their school work. Each year, Janis will remain with the same students allowing for their relationships to grow and progress in a positive manner.

Through fundraising efforts and donations, Bright Futures Mexico has also been able to collect items ranging from a simple pair of shoes to job offers and community connections for students that would not have been able to make them on their own.

We would like to thank Janis for her efforts and for donating her time to the community.
