It comes as no surprise to us that many of our county partners do more than just record Deeds — they perform goodDEEDS. We thought it would be a great idea to share as many of these stories as possible. By doing so we hope to bring awareness to various charities or organizations and build their momentum and effectiveness in achieving their very important goals.
We would like to recognize Shasta Carr, Deputy Recorder, Posey County Recorder’s Office, Indiana, for her efforts to send care packages to active-duty soldiers this holiday season. The act of sending care packages to deployed individuals is very important, as service people have very limited access to even the most basic of resources when they are stationed within remote areas.
Last year, Shasta was appointed Youth Director of her local American Legion, Post 5 in Mount Vernon. She decided her group would gather items that would in turn be sent to deployed service people that are away from their homes and loved ones during the holiday season. Her goal was to instill the youth with the same appreciation and respect for military service people that she felt while growing up. Her father was in the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War.
The group were given five soldiers to collect goods for, the items were specifically requested by these individuals. Once everything was gathered and packed, each soldier was sent five care packages. Items consisted of personal hygiene products, playing cards, snacks, hard candy and much more. Children at Shasta’s daughter’s school created handmade cards that were also sent as part of the care packages.
The group have just shipped out another twenty-three care packages for Valentine’s Day.
Thanks again to Shasta for donating her time and effort this holiday season.
