It comes as no surprise to us that many of our county partners do more than just record Deeds — they perform goodDEEDS. We thought it would be a great idea to share as many of these stories as possible. By doing so we hope to raise awareness of the various charities and organizations they contribute to. We want to build their momentum and effectiveness in achieving their very important goals.
We would like to recognize Mary Rhoades, Posey County Recorder, IN, for her commitment to the local community. Mary, along with all of the Posey County Recorder’s Office staff, volunteer with the “Pay It Forward” Award Committee which is associated with the Mt. Vernon River Days organization of Mt. Vernon, IN. “Pay It Forward” is dedicated to the betterment and enhancement of Posey County through granted money and service to deserving groups and organizations. The award, which is presented during the annual Mt. Vernon River Days, consists of a $2000 grant. It may then be used by a group or organization with a need or a community project that benefits the county.
Generating the grant money is a collaborative effort between the Mt. Vernon River Days organization and the volunteer efforts of “Pay If Forward”. Portions of the funding for the 2018 grant came from the selling of two hundred forty funnel cakes during the annual Mt. Vernon River Days celebration by “Pay It Forward” volunteers. For the 2018 year, six recipients were chosen to receive a $350 amount to help them with their programs and efforts to better the community. Those who received the awards included Beyond the Walls Ministry, Posey County Right to Life, Big Brothers/Big Sisters serving Posey County, Mt. Vernon FOP Lodge 113, Mt. Vernon Youth Baseball/Softball and the Posey County on Aging.
The “Pay It Forward” Award Committee includes County Recorder Mary Rhoades, Chief Deputy Barb Smith, Deputy Dana Baldwin, Deputy Nicole Thompson, County Treasurer Vicki Peerman and previous employees Barb Enderson and Shasta Carr. Each committee member volunteers their time and energy to this cause.
We would like to thank Mary and her committee for dedicating time and effort to contributing to her community and beyond.
