It comes as no surprise to us that many of our county partners do more than just record Deeds — they perform goodDEEDS. We thought it would be a great idea to share as many of these stories as possible. By doing so we hope to raise awareness of the various charities and organizations they contribute to. We want to build their momentum and effectiveness in achieving their very important goals.

We would like to recognize Mark Shelden, Recorder, Champaign County, Illinois, for his participation with the One Winter Night event held February 1, 2019, in Champaign, IL. The One Winter Night is an annual event organized by C-U at Home organization that is about raising awareness and funding services for the homeless within the Champaign-Urbana area.

One Winter Night participants commit to spending 12 hours outside and sleeping overnight in cardboard boxes in the downtown area of Champaign. The event takes place in the wintertime, which provides an experience that is quite similar to what a homeless individual would experience in central Illinois during the coldest part of the year.

Participating individuals also commit to raising $1000, which is used by C-U at Home to continue educating the local area about issues relating to homelessness. The 2019 event saw the group raising more than $269,000.

We would like to thank Mark for dedicating his time and effort to contributing to the community and beyond.
