Fidlar is pleased to offer products and services that assist with advancing the abilities of the Register of Deeds Office. Our disaster recovery options, BASTION Application hosting service or Replication of your county based server, assist with increasing the degree of data security and disaster recovery preparedness for any possible scenario. To establish a surefire recovery plan against a disaster is now essential and has become necessary to ensure that the public record will remain protected. If your office is not properly prepared, the public record will be under a constant state of jeopardy.

Fidlar’s Replication service protects the ROD offices that have their own on-premises land records servers with a solution to fully recover all document images and the recorded index in the event of a disaster to the county based server. The Replication service works in real time with your on-premises based server so there is no human intervention needed. Images and data are stored off-site in a secured Telco-Grade facility. In the event of a disaster, or if a county based server is down due to maintenance, searchers can continue searching the replicated data even if an office has gone completely off-line.

BASTION Application hosting services undoubtedly ensures that recorded data will remain preserved. With BASTION, the county no longer needs to own servers and all the costs and maintenance that goes with it. The county is able to shift those costs and liability to Fidlar. With BASTION, not only are all Land Records images and data stored at a telco grade facility, but the entire application resides there. For added protection, the entire system is then backed up to a secondary location. Your office will have the peace-of-mind knowing that your county’s images and data will remain in a state that ensures a full and absolute recovery in the face of a disaster.

BASTION also provides the unique ability for the ROD Office to maintain recording function if the entire courthouse were ever to be infected by a cyber-attack. As data is processed with AVID, it is securely transferred and then stored within two separate remote locations. This infrastructure ensures a safe and effective plan in the instance that county data was ever hacked. If the primary BASTION server environment were to ever be jeopardized, the backed up data will be able to get your office resuming activity within hours of the incident.

Otter Tail County Implements Disaster Recovery with Replication

We are proud to announce that the Otter Tail County Recorder’s Office has implemented Fidlar’s Replication services. The service allows for the Official Public Record to be stored off-site in a secured Telco-Grade facility. In the event of an unrecoverable disaster, this data can be used to get the office going again. Additionally, constituents utilizing search tools such as Laredo and Tapestry will access this replicated data which alleviates the usage of a county’s internal servers. Replication ensures the Official Public Record remains searchable even in the event of a disaster at the county.

Fidlar Hosts Tenth Annual Educational Symposium

Last month, Fidlar Technologies hosted their Tenth Annual Educational Symposium. Nearly 200 guests from over 100 counties attended the event at the Fidlar office in Davenport, Iowa. Guest speakers included Mark Ladd who discussed UETA and the possibilities for the end of the paper document. Industry professionals walked attendees through an electronic land transaction – defining eClosings, eNotarizations, eRecording and eReturns along the way. Jake Gibson, a data security expert from LightEdge, discussed the current state of data security in the industry and the existing threats to the Recorder’s Office.

Additionally, workshops led by county officials were conducted. These sessions examined ways to keep the public informed of services exclusive to the Recorder’s Office like Property Fraud Alert. The symposium was a success and we pride ourselves in the partnerships we have with each and every county.

iNSPECT Increases Data Integrity for Portage County

We are excited to announce that the Portage County Register of Deeds Office has reached higher performance levels with our assisted-indexing technology, iNSPECT, with AVID! iNSPECT reads the document in process and presents key index data to the user to be validated for indexing. Since iNSPECT recognizes the data for the user instead of the user having to manually process the data, the chance of human error is greatly diminished.

Utilizing tools that promote accuracy and validity will ultimately allow for cleaner data and a cleaner repository. By utilizing iNSPECT, Portage County has increased the accessibility and usability of records for their constituents.

“In December of last year our server went down. Upon inspection, IT discovered that two of the three drives had been damaged. Ultimately, the server was repaired, but of course we lost everything on it. We had stopped printing out hard copies of recorded documents at the end of 2014. When we tried to restore from our backups, we learned that a previous Clerk only backed up email, not the recorded images. If it had not been for Replication, we would have lost two years of images!
